GOLD COAST FROTHERS BOING BOING RELEASE NEW SINGLE
AND TOUR HAILING JOHNATHAN THURSTON

 

Picture where you were sitting when you heard your last song directly referencing the great game of Rugby League?  No... nothing... us neither.

Gold Coast (ex FNQ) legends Boing Boing have delivered just that, an epic underground party track, which pays tribute to the North Queensland Cowboys and their inspirational leader Johnathon Thurston, worshipped by legions of QLD ball sport frothers.

Inspired by Paul Kelly’s glorious ode to the greatest Australian cricketer of all time Don Bradman, the new league anthem 'JT' (come on fellas it's not a library talk it up) was written in a house two blocks down from the historic FNQ watering hole the Lions Den Hotel in the 2016/2017 wet season, recorded live over a weekend almost 2 years later at drummer Alistair Richardson’s homebuilt studio in Boonah just west of Ipswich, and finally mixed and mastered by Australian Punk legend Mikey Young of Eddy Current Suppression Ring down in Melbourne.

Boing Boing (or Boingas) have produced a classic Australian debut record 'Cosmic Australiana', in similar vein to The Chats, and will hit the road this April/May taking their brand of froth to venues all over the country for the first time under their own steam.  The tour hits VIC, QLD (God's Country), NSW and WA over five weeks.  The new EP, filled with such Aussie bangers as 'Swab My Butt You Filthy Pig' and 'Xavier Rudd (Wanker)' is your feel good album of Autumn.

Boing Boing singer Alby says of the release "Let me take ya back to the 4th of October 2015, the Cows and the Broncs head to head in Sydney… Everyone who watched that game remembers where they were that night... We witnessed true history in real time. Even now it is regarded as the greatest Rugby League final of all time, made all the sweeter by the incredible narrative of the North Queensland Cowboys and their leader Johnathon Thurston and what they went through to finally bring home the premiership cup. This song pays tribute to this journey and this leader Johnathon Thurston and how he went from a scrawny kid playing schoolboy footy in Sunnybank to the absolute hero of Northern and Remote Australia and the greatest playmaker the game had ever seen. All Hail the King of the North!  Oh yeah... and we're stoked to be hitting the road. Come on down for a slurp."

The band, Boing Boing, are a four piece 4 litre straight 6 Rock n Roll band from 'up the top end' that sing songs inspired by the characters and lifestyle of Northern Australia and the landscape that shapes them. Although only formed in mid 2017 the boys have been quick to gain traction on the back of their spirited live shows and unique Australiana lyrics.  Sharing the stage with some of the countries finest acts including Peter Bibby, Pist Idiots and a sold out east coast tour with QLD pub brothers The Chats in July 2018, the band are keen to jump back in the mighty Ford Falcon and play some bloody Rock n Roll for all and sundry.
